w3schools is good as a reference but not as a straight tutorial in my opinion but check both out and decide for yourself
www.w3schools.com should be your first stop, it is very clear and also has tutorials for further languages - JS, PHP, CSS, and others.
www.w3schools.com/html for starting.Try google searches for other detailed examples but for simple cases use ';try it yourself'; in w3schools.com
